Figma: should I buy it?įigma is, without a doubt, the best value for money at this moment in time, especially if you and/or your team is taking designOps seriously by branching, testing, creating design systems, and also leveraging both synchronous and asynchronous work as needed.ĭespite these serious features, Figma still manages to make design collaboration fun with its multiplayer features and audio conversations.įinally, it remains competitive with other UI design tools in terms of features and platform support, and yet always manages to innovate without adding more feature bloat, which we’ve seen become the downfall of many tools in the past. See Figma’s pricing page for a more detailed breakdown.
Figma desktop app plus#
The biggest differences are that Professional will get you unlimited files plus access to team libraries and audio conversations, whereas Organization will get you branching and merging too.

In Figma’s newest release we also saw the introduction of ‘spotlighting’, which is essentially a “follow me around the file” button for those that need to present work.Īnd of course, for asynchronous work, the standard ‘comment and resolve’ features are there too. The feature set of Figma focuses on use in user interface and user.

The Figma Mirror companion apps for Android and iOS allow viewing Figma prototypes on mobile devices.

One of Figma’s other collaboration features (that hasn’t been adopted by other tools… yet) is audio conversations, allowing stakeholders to discuss feedback, ask questions, run workshops, or simply co-work. Figma is a vector graphics editor and prototyping tool which is primarily web-based, with additional offline features enabled by desktop applications for macOS and Windows. Since then, Figma has more than delivered on this promise despite other UI design tools also implementing live collaboration features. If I could design in Figma on iPad it would save my hand so much from all the mouse clicks.Collaboration is where Figma truly shines.Īfter innovating live collaboration features (referred to by Figma as ‘multiplayer’), it became clear that collaboration was going to be a huge part of what makes Figma great. I would really love editing capabilities, especially for iPad. It seems all that I can do view my frames. It would be nice to have an option to turn on/off status bar and home bar if they are already on your designs.Īside from the mirror feature, I wanted to view and respond to a comment while I was on the go, but I can’t see the comments. It looked fine on the computer screen but on the phone, the container background appeared white and the shadows were applied to the container instead of the objects inside it. For example, I had an icon with a transparent container around it and layers that had shadows. The prototype doesn’t always appear exactly as on screen. Freezes often and needs to be restarted I use it almost exclusively for the mirror function and I would have given it 3 stars if it weren’t so buggy.īugs I have found while using mirror include: I love Figma on desktop but the mobile app on phone and iPad fall short in a big way. I hope this is fixed so I can centralize my programs I use to figma. It’s too embarrassing to load my prototypes to my clients right now. If this is fixed this program will allow me to stop my subscription to my other programs. Automated actions fail to show and overall is not good practice. But don’t show the actual assets loading. Doesn’t matter if I have large assets or not. This is huge because if I am presenting to a team, they should not see anything in the presentation other than the intended first frame not have the prototype assets load one by one like a website they can click on things before ready. Doesn’t matter if the asset is large or not. What is the point of showing you are loading a prototype if your assets are not actually being loaded.I don’t want to have to tell my client oh wait for your assets to load.

When you first run the presentation let the loader ACTUALLY load the assets then start the presentation.

When I run my prototype to present, figma loads my assets one by one, it causes an issue because assets should be completely loaded before starting a presentation. But one huge design flaw that I can’t get over.
